RESOLUTION 27-5

RESOLUTION CONCERNING THE
NORTHEAST INTERNATIONAL COMMITTEE ON ENERGY

 

WHEREAS, the New England states and Eastern Canadian provinces have close historical and economic ties in the energy sector and have long cooperated on energy matters; and

WHEREAS, the Conference of New England Governors and Eastern Canadian Premiers recognizes the importance of working towards sustainable development and in promoting more efficient use of energy that will help improve economic performance and reduce environmental harm; and

WHEREAS, energy technologies, including renewables, efficiency, and transportation are significant and high-growth industries in New England and Eastern Canada; and

WHEREAS, the Atlantic premiers have established an Atlantic Energy Ministers’ Forum; and

WHEREAS, the Province of New Brunswick hosted and organized a successful forum on energy.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED THAT the Conference direct its Northeast International Committee on Energy (NICE) to continue to share information on energy supply, demand and trade in the region; and

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED THAT NICE investigate new and renewable energy technologies and market opportunities; and

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED THAT NICE continue to work with the New England Governors and Eastern Canadian Premiers’ Committee on the Environment to implement the Climate Change Action Plan; and

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED THAT NICE work with the Atlantic Energy Ministers’ Forum and the New England Governors’ Conference, Inc.’s Power Planning Committee to exchange information on common issues and interests; and

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED THAT NICE prepare a report, for submission at the next Conference of governors and premiers, on key jurisdictional energy issues and programs.
